Spring Health-Roundup!!
Spring Health Round-Up is scheduled for Thursday, April 23 from 3pm-7pm at Celebration Centre. This will be the sixth year for the Rice County District Hospital sponsored event. Plans are taking shape to make this year even bigger and better.
A new addition to this year’s event will be a Teddy Bear Clinic. Karen Root, A.R.N.P. who staffs the newly completed hospital clinic, will oversee physical exams for teddy bears and children to have their blood pressures, heart rates, ears, and other “ouchies” examined. Children who participate in the Teddy Bear Clinic will receive a Spring Health Round-Up backpack, with the additional possibility of taking a new Teddy Bear friend home.
Emergency child information packets will be available to be filled out by parents or guardians. Children will be fingerprinted and those fingerprints will be placed in the information packets for use as identification in the case of an emergency.
Bone density, lab testing for blood glucose, lipids and PSA, pulmonary function, spine exams, tetanus vaccine updates, lead level screening for children up to age 5, pelvic stabilization, and blood pressure checks will be done by agencies that have committed to participating. Other screenings, such as hearing, are still being sought.
All testing is offered free of charge due to the generous sponsorship of the event by the Rice Community Healthcare Foundation. Spring Health Round-Up and other not for profit agencies have been the recipients of grants awarded that allow quality projects, such as the health fair, to be completed for residents of Rice County.
The Rice Community Healthcare Foundation will have an informational booth at the health fair and will be available to answer questions about their mission and plans for the future.
There will be information available ranging from corneal transplants to safe drinking water, from hospice and homecare services available in Rice County to services for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and from pet therapy to drug abuse awareness and prevention.
Make plans now to attend this evening of information to improve your knowledge of what is available in our county and to participate in the screenings to improve your awareness of your own health.
